I had friend in that same scene. He broke up with his girlfriend on the advice of his girl "pal". Now he and his girl pal are dating. Put 2 and 2 together. He listens more to her than you and and he's still trying to impress her by doing anything she says. Sounds as if he's still infatuated with her.
